The first words that touched my heart were â€Å"Education is an antidote for ignorance. It is the agency for societal development. † African Americans knew way back then that education was the key to freedom; this was their way of being part of sociality. What really inspired me was how Dr. John Miller Dickey, a pastor of the Oxford Presbyterian Church; which was a White Church. How he put his house up to help three African- Americans males to get farther education to help other surpass people of Color. The article stated He was a humanist and he was very sensitive to the conditions of the less fortunate, and that is mother Jane also had those qualities that Dr. John Miller Dickey possessed. † Dr. John Miller Dickey felt that it was his duty to help with educating the freed Africans and he tried to reconnect them back to Africa. James Ralston Amos was a free Black m inster and he wanted to further his education for a better stead to enhance his evangelical career. Dr. Dickey seen this burning desire for education and tried to get him into some of the best institutions, however his color of his skin wouldn’t allow him to attend any of them. Dr. Dickey came up with this plan to find a college for young African- Americans Males. They came to Coatesville, Pa, on October 4, 1853, to meet with the Presbyterian Church of New Castle. He presented a proposal to them wanting to establish a college for colored males in the USA. The name of the college was Ashmun Institute; the church bought the land for the school at the price of $1,250 in the hill of Lower Oxford. The college was built near the Dixie Line, the same route where plenty of slaves traveled to gain their freedom from slavery. When the name of Armistead Miller appeared in the article, the first thing that came to my mind was is this man a family member? My grandfather last name is Miller, and his family came from North Carolina. Some White’s wanted to colonize the Black’s because they felt threating; they are educated and they were free. What I really got out of the article is how Lincoln University education was spread from one Country to another Country. These men were about revolution and they spread it through religion, preaching the word of God. One hand supports the other hand; Armistead Miller made it to Africa because the hurch finances the trip. Lincoln University History is so â€Å"Rich in Education†, so many famous people graduated from Lincoln. Some went on to build other Colleges and Hospitals so they could help and educated other African- Americans. In 1953, the college made History again by amending their charter and allows women to receive their degrees. They wanted to hear the very best leadership stories these leaders could remember when asked to tell about them.. These leaders surveyed were from all walks of life, some were first line supervisors, others were top level Coos, and some were mid level management. Souses and Poster surveyed literally thousands of leaders over a number of years and they were able to identify that when leaders were doing their best work they all had several common factors working for them. When these leaders were doing their very best they were practicing what Souses and Poster came to call the Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership (p. 1 3). These practices can be used by anyone who wants to be a leader and If used properly these practices can alp a leader be successful and foster great Improvement within their organization. Having a vision, or a destination of the future for the organization is something a visionary leader cultivates among his followers. Leadership is about change and the willpower, drive, and willingness to accept a challenge. The best leaders surround themselves with individuals who have new ideas, want to improve the operations, and are not afraid to venture out and try something new. Enable Others to Act is the process in which leaders give away power to others and let them do great things. Anyone can have a good idea and a good leader should always be ready to listen to what even the least senior person has to say. Position 4 Teamwork and empowering others within an organization is one of the best tactics used by successful leaders. Encourage the Heart is the acts taken by a leader to show followers how important they are and how much they are appreciated by the leader. Small acts of friendship and kindness can ago long way towards energize an employee that has become exhausted or burnt out. When the leader takes the opportunity to show the employee how important they are it helps fuel their moral level and they recognize they are a needed asset to the company. Modern speakers are more likely to use â€Å"in vain† or â€Å"no use† when that’s the intended meaning: He gave her the roses, but it was no use. She still refused to date him. Her father pleaded with her to accept the suitor, but his pleas were in vain. I conclude the following: Either form may be used with the meaning â€Å"to a great extent† in colloquial English.
